Check out this video comparing how much you really get when you’re eating a hundred calorie snack. And quick ways to measure off 100 calories of regular sized food.
Looking for good 100 calorie snacks. Couple of folks mentioned they wanted to start or get back to eating 100 calorie snacks. Here’s an interesting review post on Little Debbie’s 100 cal cakes: http://theplussizemommy.com/plussize-healthfitness/little-debbie-100-calorie-cakes-win/comment-page-1#comment-2246

Hmmm…I will have to keep my eye out for 100 calorie coupons…I usually don’t buy them for 2 reasons….1 they are expensive IMO and 2 I eat more than 1 pack so i might as well have gotten the regular size
*sigh*

I enjoyed the video. I like the 100 calorie packs because they take the guessing out of what you are eating if you are trying to lose/maintain weight. I use them particularly when making my lunch for work as a snack so I don’t have to go to the dreaded snack machine that has all regular size candy.
-
Good info. I need to start buying those again. Because I KNOW I eat beyond 100 calories when I get a hold of a box of cheese-its *double sigh*

Interesting! It doesn’t take much to equal 100 calories, huh?
Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!

My problem is that I can never eat just one of those 100 calorie packs! Kind of defeats the purpose…and I’m still hungry! =)
Congrats on your SITS Day! Great blog!

I gave up on 100 calorie packs long ago…

I always get the 100 cal packs… helps so much with portion control… and you still get to eat the yummy stuff.
Happy Surprise sits day!

Heh, I’m with Aimee…I seriously need to work on my willpower so I don’t eat MULTIPLE packs lol.

Good tip on the portion control! Liked your video!

Loved the tips on your vlog. Thanks!

Yeah…….they’re a great Idea….but I admit to wanting more. I also admit to packing on roughly 20 lbs. in the last few years………Something’s gotta give:)

Looks like I’m going to need to get some of those 100 calorie packages. I have serious issues with portion control!
-
Every time I eat an 100 calorie pack I want to reach for another one. I mean, they’re only 100 calories, so why not! Five later and I’m in trouble. Congrats on your surprise SITS day!

I actually had a big debate with a woman at work who was dismayed at not being able to find “100 calorie packs” of almonds (and complaining in general how expensive these packs are.) So I suggested she simply buy the bigger container and then portion out herself into little snack baggies. (That’s what I do.) You would have thought I asked her to give up her first born! LOL!!

Excellent information. I am not much of a calorie counter (probably should be) so therefore I had no idea how much was in what. Good stuff and good to know.
-
My Problem with the 100 calorie packs is that the grams of fat in them tend to be so high. Otherwise, I love them. They are just the perfect size for a snack.
-
I don’t buy the 100 calorie packs so I am in trouble:)

I’m with the girls who lack the self-control to eat just one pack. I find I’m terrible at portioning too so I’ve just buying the things I love too much. (like goldfish, they are killer for me.)
I enjoyed the video. It was a great reminder of portion control and tips for that. -
I have to say, that I take issue with those 100 calorie packs. I know there’s a need for them in the world of convenience and calorie counting, but it’s clear that the powerful food industry is capitalizing on that…taking advantage — it’s an incredible opportunity for them to sell more of their product, but in smaller quantities at a higher price. Okay, there are bigger issues in the world, and I wouldn’t get my breeches in such a bunch if it weren’t for the fact that this practice causes a lot of extra waste ~ all those individual little bags! I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been a little slow to completely get on board with the “going green” movement, but day by day I’m realizing there are simple ways to reduce our waste, like just saying no to individually packaged treats. Who really wins with theses things? The big food companies. Who pays? Us. The environment. I’m trying very hard (and not always succeeding…after all, ziploc baggies are a hard habit to quit) to use reusable packaging for portioning out food. I’m so sorry, ranting like this on your SITS day. I hope I’m not sounding combative or zany. Just wanted to put my two cents in on the whole 100 calorie pack thing ~ and I guess I ended up giving you a whole dime’s worth. Your blog is amazing and I’m very glad I found you through the SITS girls!

Why does the healthy “good for us” food always cost so much more than junk?
Not fair!

Wow, what an informative site you have! It is interesting how much 100 calories are. I wish I always chose the veggie and fruit route where 100 calories go a long way, but alas that doesn’t really happen. I was surprised by the cake…tini tiny slice from now on…got it! Happy Surprise SITS Day!

Happy Surprise SITS Day! Love your vlog–and certainly makes me think about true portion control–yikes have Americans gotten seriously out of control!
-
I love the information. I usually stick with the 100 cal packs because even knowing the portion size for a regular package of ______. I would still EAT it all. My greediness takes over, I can eat one pack and be good on the 100cal.
Great video!

Thanks for the information! I need to start eating more of those 100 calorie packs, or just be more aware of how much I am eating out of a normal package. Thanks! And Happy SITS day!

I didn’t even realize those existed, I don’t eat processed foods so they aren’t on my radar.

Good review. I sell those 100 calorie individual chocolate bars in my store and I had a teen oohing over the fact that it’s only a 100 calories but then complaining about it being so small. She was surprised when I told her that it’s half the size of a regular chocolate bar (here in Canada anyways). I could have laughed at the look on her face. She thought there were some kind of “magic” ingredients that made it so few calorie. *LOL*
If you’re going to eat more than the serving, you might as well have saved your money and bought the regular sizes…. cause 100 calories does not mean cheaper.
I try avoid most of that stuff anyways. Although I am a sucker for chocolate bars.

Hi, I’ve never tried the 100 cal. packs before because I thought they would be horrible. I appreciate the “leg work” you have done for us.
-
Interesting. I’ve never bought those 100 cal. snacks before, because I know myself too well and would probably eat 1/2 the box and then I’ve defeated the purpose!
But still, I will not forget the hand comparison now when I go to eat things – that’ll be a good rule to go by. Thanks! Hope you enjoy your day in the SITS spotlight – despite it being a surprise! -
Wow, what an eye opener! I have consumed my share of King Sized Milky Ways hehe
. Thanks for the tips! -
I know! They are so tiny. Sometimes I end up eating two! Kind of defeats the purpose. But sometimes you just gotta have more:)
-
Those were the BEST invention!
